Ubuntu 11.10 and my laptop
0Hey guys, has been awhile since I have actually blogged anything interesting.
Well in this post I thought I would go into Ubuntu 11.10 and how its going on my laptop,
I was going to just to do an upgrade on my previous update of 11.04, but when I tried to do this it destroyed my install, So had to do a fresh install. So off I go and grab the latest ISO of the Ubuntu site and start the install.
Installing Ubuntu 11.10 is as easy as any other install with only a few questions on the way , and it basically does the whole thing by itself, with out much user input at all.Once you have done your install and reboot, you get into the OS for the first, now you can start playing with the layout and cool stuff!
Everytime I do a fresh install , first thing I do is reinstall all my favorite apps ( or in Ubuntu its called “packages”). I usually install dropbox, skype etc, then setup my emails and import my backups of files and bookmarks etc for firefox.Installing Software is really easy with the Ubuntu software center, it has a list of popular/ recommended apps if you have no idea what your looking for , or you can just search it!
My little Acer is only got a i3 processor and 4gb of ram and a 5470 graphics card , but I still manage to get 2.5 hours or so of battery life, and using Linux uses little or not resources and still looks as pretty as Windows, but without the heavy resource usage.
Linux FTW!

0Taken from www.hurricanes.co.nz
GO THE MIGHT HURRICANES!
“Today the Hurricanes squad for the 2012 Investec Super Rugby competition was named with 21 players returning to the franchise and a number of new faces.
Two offshore players have decided to return to New Zealand and have chosen the Hurricanes as their franchise. Tim Bateman, currently playing in Japan, already has 35 Super Rugby caps to his name at the age of 24 and Tusi Pisi, who starred with Samoa in the Rugby World Cup, will also return from playing in Japan to join the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes will not be short of young talent in the ranks with three from the 2011 World Championship winning New Zealand Under 20 team also in the squad – Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara and Brad Shields.
The squad will form later in November for pre-season training, with the All Blacks and overseas players joining the team early next year, after their current commitments.
Pirate Bay Found Guilty
0Well According to Torrentfreak The Pirate Bay Founders have all been sentenced to 1 years jail time and to pay damages… this is a shame , and alot of people think the judges are being payed to make a guilty verdict.
article below from torrentfreak.com
The Stockholm District Court sentence against Pirate Bay founder Gottfrid Svartholm was finalized today after he failed to appear at the Court of Appeal. Svartholm, also known as Anakata online, did not appear at the appeal trial last year because he was hospitalized in Cambodia and later went missing. The Court of Appeal has now decided to finalize the initial verdict of one year jail time and a fine of $1.1 million.
November last year, the Swedish Appeal Court found three people behind The Pirate Bay guilty of contributory copyright infringement offenses. The trio were handed prison sentences and ordered to pay millions of dollars in damages.
